Easy Paper Plate Butterfly Craft {Plus Free Butterfly Printables Packet}

Butterflies are such cool insects, aren’t they? I have always loved not only the fact that caterpillars become butterflies, but also that it feels exciting to see a butterfly flying by. Okay – maybe that’s just me. Either way – most kids love seeing butterflies, so in this post, I’m sharing instructions for making an easy paper plate butterfly craft, as well as a free to download butterfly printables packet!

Easy Paper Plate Butterfly Craft

Materials Needed for Easy Paper Plate Butterfly Craft

• Paint and paintbrush
• Paper plate
• Glitter
• Scissors
• Glue
• Two pipe cleaners

Instructions for Easy Paper Plate Butterfly Craft

Step One: Cut two triangles out of the top and bottom of the plate to create the butterfly body.

Step Two: Paint the plate the color (or colors) of your choice and allow it to completely dry.

Step Three: Place the dried painted plate on top of another clean plate (or another easy-to-clean surface) to help keep the glitter from making a mess.

Make dots, as well as any other desired designs, with glue.

Step Four: Sprinkle some glitter on top of the glue and gently shake the excess glitter off onto the bottom plate.

Step Five: Twist the pipe cleaners together half way up and form antennas toward the top. Glue the pipe cleaners to the center of the butterfly.

Ta da!

You have your paper plate butterfly completed!
