I Am Thankful Free Printable Writing Activity for Kids Post Preview: Perfect for Thanksgiving or any day of the year, kids can work through each section of this book to write about what they are thankful for.

While it’s important to count your blessings every day of the year, Thanksgiving is always a perfect time to reflect on what you are thankful for. While I have the Thankful Turkey Art Project, which is already a wonderful addition to Thanksgiving, I wanted to offer a new printable that also works for slightly older kids.

And, even though Thanksgiving is coming up, I wanted a printable that kids can use any time of year. Because of this, today’s new printable isn’t Thanksgiving specific like the turkey project.

Keeping this all in mind, I knew it was a great time to share this “I Am Thankful” tab book writing activity printable.

I Am Thankful Free Printable Writing Activity for Kids

This booklet is a wonderful activity for a variety of ages of children. You might even consider making your own booklet so you can share what you are thankful for with your children or students.

Content of the I Am Thankful Booklet

The I Am Thankful Tab Booklet has six pages plus a cover. There are decorations of woodland animals. As I mentioned before, this makes it still appropriate to use for Thanksgiving, while also working for any time of year.

In the booklet, children can record what they are thankful for in a number of categories.

There are separate pages for:

  • Family
  • Home
  • Food
  • School
  • Favorites
  • Friends

You will direct students to make a list on each page of the booklet. Younger children may need help and can dictate their lists.

For example, on the family page, a child might write:

I am thankful for my mom and dad, my grandma and grandpa, Jacob, Zane, Uncle Scott, Aunt Lori, and Rover.

On the home page, a child might write:

I am thankful for my warm house, my cool bunk bed, my favorite blanket, the fort that Zane and I built, and my kitchen table where I always have food to eat.

How to Assemble Your Booklet

1. Print out all of the pages of the free downloadable packet. While it is ideal if you can use a color printer to do this, you can also use a regular black and white printer. (This is a newer version of the color laser printer I have and I love it.)

2. Cut on all of the thick black lines. Make sure to leave each tabbed area attached.

3. After all of the pages have been cut out, assemble the booklet with the cover on top and tabbed pages going in an order that makes each tab visible when you have assembled the book.

4. Once the book is assembled, fasten with staples on the left side of the booklet.

If you are doing this activity with young children, you may need to cut and assemble each booklet yourself.

If you are doing this activity with slightly older children, they can probably cut and assemble the booklets on their own or with minimal assistance.
