Post Preview: This easy Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball with a cream cheese base is sure to please at parties or just for a special dessert dip at home. This recipe is wonderfully easy, making it a perfect recipe for kids to make on their own or with help.

Even though I don’t eat much dairy, I have a weakness that will make me have some anyway. And, no, it’s not even things like milk chocolate or ice cream.

It’s cheese balls and chip spreads. On the upside, those things actually don’t hurt my stomach as some dairy does. So, bonus for me!

This recipe also features another favorite of mine since I was a kid. Sprinkles! I actually have a spice rack in my kitchen that just has jars of sprinkles in it. (Did you know that you can also make your own sprinkles? Mind blown!)

Of course, if sprinkles aren’t your thing, you don’t have to use them for this recipe. I actually have a few alternate suggestions in the recipe section.

Easy Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball Recipe (with Cream Cheese Base)

This dessert cheese ball recipe is so quick and easy to put together. Of course, you will need to prepare to have time to let it chill once you’re done. So, make sure to give yourself some time.

If you’re really in a pinch, you could put the finished recipe in a bowl instead and call it a Chocolate Chip Cream Cheese Dip. But, you know me – I say don’t skip the chance to have a dessert cheese ball covered in sprinkles.

Kids in the Kitchen: This is a great recipe for kids to make on their own, depending on their skill level, or with assistance.

Note: There is a printable version of the recipe farther down in the post.

Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball Ingredients:

  • 16 oz. of Cream Cheese, softened – this will typically be two 8 oz packages
  • 1 stick of Butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup of Mini Chocolate Chips
  • 3/4 cup of Chocolate Cake Mix
  • 1/3 cup of Brown Sugar
  • 1/3 cup of Powdered Sugar
  • Large container of Chocolate Sprinkles*
  • Something for dipping such as vanilla wafers, graham crackers, chocolate wafers, or pretzels

*Note: If you don’t want to use chocolate sprinkles for the outside of the Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball, you might prefer to use mini chocolate chips, chopped walnuts, or chopped pecans.

Bulk chocolate sprinkles container

Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball Directions:

1. Place all of your ingredients, except the chocolate sprinkles, into a large mixing bowl.

2. Mix the ingredients until well combined. You may need to knead this with your hands.

3. Roll the mixture into a ball.

4. Cover the entire Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball with chocolate sprinkles (or whatever covering ingredient you have chosen). This can be done in many ways, but I would recommend laying out your sprinkles on a flat and clean surface and then rolling the ball through it. Then, manually place more sprinkles on to fill in what was missed.

5. Place the finished cheese ball on a plate or dish and chill in the refrigerator for three hours.

6. Serve with vanilla wafers, chocolate wafers, graham crackers, and/or pretzels. Enjoy!

Fancy (but inexpensive) way to display your cheese ball and dipping items
