United States State Capitals Crossword Puzzle Printable Post Preview: You will find a free U.S. State Capitals Crossword puzzle with all 50 state capitals. You can use the state capitals crossword puzzle for practice, review, homework, or even as a state capitals quiz or test. There are also other geography resources in this post.
One of my favorite things to study in upper elementary school was the state capitals. As a child who both loved geography and remembering facts, state capitals seemed to be the perfect combination of the two. Even after I memorized them all, I still wanted to buy flash cards with the states and capitals, just to review, instead of a toy during one trip to the mall.

Sadly, I didn’t realize I had forgotten so many of those once beloved facts until I started working on creating this U.S. state capitals crossword puzzle. I had to rely on our National Geographic Kids United States Atlas more than I care to admit.

One thing that I really like about this printable is that it is versatile. You can use this with a variety of ages from upper elementary school through high school. It can also be used in different ways. The United States State Capitals Crossword Puzzle printable can be used for practice, review, homework, or as a state capitals quiz or test.
Since there are so many states, this is a large puzzle. I couldn’t fit all of the clues and the grid on one page. The puzzle grid is on the first page of the PDF document. The second page contains all of the clues for the puzzle. The clues are simply the state name. The answer to that clue is that state’s capital city, which students will write in the appropriate spot. Because of this, each student working on this assignment or quiz will need a copy of both page one and page two.
The third page of the document is the answer key for the crossword puzzle.

Thanks! We printed this off and noticed a couple of mistakes. Tallahassee is the capital of Florida and Raleigh is the capital of North Carolina. You have Jacksonville and Wilmington listed. It will throw off the rest of it, but I thought you’d like to know.

Augh – thanks for the catches. I should never work so late at night or use a book that lists the largest city right next to the capital city. I actually had already caught one error last night.
I think that North Carolina should be right – Raleigh was already in for it. It was Delaware that the Wilmington error was for. Geesh! No crossword making for me so late. That’s going to have to be a rule. The kicker of it is that I looked at the Florida answer five times. I thought, “That’s not right.” But, I was just shifted over in my looking in the book and it was 2 am. So, I was finally just, “Okay, fine.”
Thanks, again, for the catches. I fixed it up and put up a new version. 🙂 Hopefully between you and I, we’ve caught all the issues now.

Just look for the section of the post with the heading “DOWNLOAD THE U.S. STATE CAPITALS CROSSWORD PUZZLE PRINTABLE”
In that section, you’ll see a picture of what the puzzle looks like, a link that you can click on that says “DOWNLOAD THE UNITED STATES STATE CAPITALS CROSSWORD PUZZLE (THREE PAGE DOCUMENT)” and there is also a graphic underneath that says “download your free printable here” that has a jar with flowers with hearts (that matches the site’s header) which can also be clicked on to download the printable.
