Free Printable Thank You Cards to Color for Kids Post Preview: Help children work on writing thank you notes with this printable set of eight thank you cards with designs that kids can color. There is also a word bank page with helpful words and phrases.

Once gift time is done, it’s time to work on thank you notes! While most kids (and adults) don’t love writing out thank you cards, I think it’s an important thing to do, even if it’s not always fun.

As I told one of my kids when he was working on his huge list of thank you notes after his high school graduation – even though you have a lot to write, remember that each one you send is the only card that person will get from you. So, make sure it’s a good one that shows you appreciate their gift.

To help your kids or students, I have a set of eight free printable thank you cards to color and then write. Plus, the download includes a word bank of words and phrases that might be helpful to them while they write their notes.

Free Printable Thank You Cards to Color for Kids

This set of eight printable thank you cards to color includes holiday-themed designs. There are a few, however, that you could probably use at any time of year.

Each thank you card can be printed on one sheet of paper. You or your children will fold the card on the dashed lines to make a card. The card will have a design that kids can color on the front, lines for writing inside, and a blank back.

These cards can be printed on regular white printer paper or on white cardstock. If you want to use the thank you cards, but don’t want kids to have to color the front, you could print them on some festive colors of paper instead.

Holiday Thank You Card Designs to Color

As I mentioned, there are eight different designs. Each is just black line designs so that it saves on printing costs, as well as so children can color the whole design.

Designs included on the cards:

  • Gingerbread girl with a “You are so sweet!” sign
  • “Thank you!” showing a girl with presents
  • Two reindeer holding a “You are so dear!” sign
  • Two elves holding a sign that says, “Thanks for the Gift!”
  • A boy with a cupcake and some cookies that says, “Thanks for the treat!”
  • A snowman holding a “You melted my heart!” sign
  • “You Made My Holiday Jolly” with a gift on it
  • A gingerbread man holding a sign that says “Thank you!”

How to Write a Thank You Note for Kids

Sometimes kids can get stuck while writing their thank you cards because they aren’t sure about what they should be writing. Be sure to give your children or students some guidance.

Steps for Writing a Thank You Note

1. Start with an opening or greeting. For example: Dear Grandma,

2. Use the first sentence to thank the giver for the gift and name the gift specifically. For example, “Thank you for the dump truck.” Or, “Thank you for the money.” I always tell my kids not to specifically mention the amount of money, but that’s up to you.

3. Add a few sentences about the gift, how you will use it, what it means to you, or other notes. If the gift is money, I always suggest to my children that they share with the giver what they plan to do with it, if they know.

4. End with a closing such as “Thanks again,” or “Love,” or another appropriate closing based on your relationship.

5. Sign your name.

Here are more tips and some templates for helping kids write thank you cards.
