One of my favorite children’s books is Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney.  It’s such a charming story of two “Nut Brown Hares” comparing who loves the other the most.  With two children (the oldest of which is 4), I think I have read this one at least 100 times. Even though I almost have it memorized, it’s still as dear to me as the first time I read it to my daughter when she was a tiny baby.

Now that they’re getting older, I get a laugh when my kids imitate the movements Little Nut Brown Hare does to show his love.  As I was watching their shenanigans one evening, I thought “Wouldn’t it be cute to have a printable to go with this story?”  So, I made one!

Color in Little Nut Brown Hare, and his arms on the second page.  Then, cut out his arms, hole punch on the circles, and attach with little metal brads.  Now you can move his arms out to the side for “I love you THIS much” or turn them straight up for “I love you as HIGH as I can reach!”

The printable is two pages. The first shows Little Nut Brown Hare, and the second page has the instructions for assembly, as well as Little Nut Brown Hare’s arms.

To go with this printable, we had a “Guess How Much I Love You” lunch.  It was as easy as serving sandwiches, raw veggies, and Oreos.  No, really, that’s pretty much it.

Make a sandwich, and cut it out with a bunny shaped cookie cutter.  Add some little carrots for a side, a broccoli for a “hill,” and a river of Ranch dressing for “I love you across the river and over the hills.” Make your Oreo into the Moon by removing one of the cookie sides to expose just the cream filling for “I love you right up to the moon- and back.”

A cute (and simple!) way to show your love at lunch!

If you don’t own this charming little book yet, you can get it on Amazon for less than $5.  That price is for the board book, which I highly recommend.  Although ours has several teeth marks, it has held up remarkably well.  Add it to your own children’s book collection or buy it for someone you love.

Use this printable and meal idea just for a fun book themed day, or include it in a “Guess How Much I Love You” party!
