Our Note from Seamus

Saint Patrick’s Day is a little more than a week away, and you might find that you have a desire to invite a leprechaun to your house for some shenanigans. I have had several people contact me lately to see how I managed Seamus the Leprechaun did the Cool Whip trick last year.  It made me want to talk a little about some fun, innocent Saint Patrick’s Day fun.

I’m not a fan of pranks or mean spirited tricks, so I was very happy last year when Seamus’ tricks were all nice and fun.  Nobody got hurt or embarrassed, just lots of giggles and scratching of heads to figure out the tricks.

Seamus visited our house, toilet papered the living room, left a note, put shoes on the piano, and hid lots of chocolate coins.  He also tricked us by making it so that when we opened our sealed container of Cool Whip and stirred it, it turned green!  These were all wildly fun for the children.

This year, I hope that Seamus decides to visit again. I suspect if he visits again, there will be more toilet papering and hidden chocolate coins.  I suspect there will probably be another crazy note.

Some other things that may or may not happen if Seamus stops by again:

Mini Pots of Gold

Lots of Green Balloons

A Bathtub Full of Saint Patrick’s Day Mini Rubber Ducks

Taste a Rainbow Cupcakes

Some fun assortment of Saint Patrick’s Day goodies

Some kind of reminder that it actually is a Feast Day

Any other ideas for kooky ideas that are just fun and not harmful or embarrassing that Seamus might consider doing?

This post is linked to Works for Me Wednesday and Finer Things Friday (because trust me, after all of the enjoyment last year brought, this is definitely works for us and is a finer thing!)

You know what’s funny, my birthday is St. Patties Day but I never knew of this tradition before becoming a nanny a few years ago. The family that I nannied for was big into turning the house upside down in silly ways while the kids were at school for the day – I had a blast with it. Our lepruchan even made little footprints in crazy impossible places which the kids loved the most. I’m so glad you reminded me — this will be my first year doing it with my son!

So, do you think you’ll do something this year for it then?

How adorable!!! Sounds like another “Elf on the Shelf” to me. You need to market this before someone else does!

I remember reading this last year and feeling so amazed at all you had put into this!! I am glad for this post, because I really wanted to try something this year and had almost forgotten!

Our family doesn’t do Santa or the Easter Bunny, so I this would be a really cool alternative.

It really wasn’t hard to pull together at all. I just had to make sure I had some toilet paper, gold coins (Eric picked them up at Walgreens), and the Cool Whip. Easy peasy. 🙂

My 8 year old has been asking for weeks whether “that silly leprechaun will visit us again.” Each kid makes some sort of trap to catch him. Last year, he put leprechaun stickers on our bathroom mirrors. He died the kids’ milk green and added mint flavoring to my coffee. He also used some green food coloring to spray paint our loaf of bread green so we had to eat green peanut butter sandwiches for lunch! (Wilton manufactures food coloring in a spray can for giving an air-brushed effect to cakes. He discovered the can I had in the pantry.) (You can purchase it at many hobby and craft stores.)

Visiting here from Finer Things and I’m so glad I did! My girls and I try to trap a leprechaun every year and he always outsmarts us. 😉 You can see some our our traps by visiting the following link.

Thanks for the wonderful ideas! I had so much fun doing this tonight as my children went to sleep! This will definetly be a tradition in our house from now on. I had never heard of this but am so glad that I did it.

Each year, the leprechaun visits our house and turns all of our milk green. He’s also been known to color the toilet water green and turn everyone’s shoes upside down.
