Five Rosary Resources for Busy Moms

I don’t know about you, but praying the Rosary feels like it takes 10 times longer than it does and having 25 minutes of quiet to myself?   Well, many days it just doesn’t seem possible.   I’ve amassed quite a collection of Rosary resources to help overcome those feelings.

1.  In the car.

It takes 10-15 minutes to get anywhere.  I usually get 2-3 decades in on the drive TO somewhere and the rest on the way home.   My favorite audio rosary is Praying the Rosary with St. Alphonsis Liguori (author of the Way of the Cross most of us are familiar with).  I have the CD in my van and I also have it loaded on my iPod for other opportune times to fit in a decade or two.  I also know mom’s who say their Rosary in the car line at school.

2.   All day long.  Literally.

I found a version of the rosary that is literally prayed every hour all day long – it’s called Rosary of the Hours.  If you happen to be nursing or up with a sick child, you might get through 15-20 decades in a day.   They even have an iPhone app, now, making it especially easy to do in the middle of the night!  Unfortunately, it’s too cool to be compatible with my ancient iPhone 3G – it’s first on my purchase list when I get a new one, though!

3.  On the go.

Not driving this time and the kids are relatively occupied?   There are several Rosary apps, but I like Holy Rosary.  It’s simple and you can have it make noise or vibrate when it’s time to progress to another prayer.

4.  In your purse.

On the occasions where technology is frowned upon or unpractical, I have a booklet from Priests for Life that was given to me by a lady at 40 Days for Life.   It’s called In the Palm of His Hand and has pro-life rosary mysteries, stations and other prayers.  It’s my favorite paper rosary meditation booklet.

5.   For the distracted.

Or maybe that’s just me.   One thing I’ve found that helps me focus on the mysteries as I’m praying it is to use a scriptural Rosary.  For years, I didn’t even know such a thing existed!  If you’ve never heard of one either, it’s a Rosary that includes a bible verse that is associated with the mystery with every prayer.  I use an iphone app called Scriptural Rosary.  I have a paper version that the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception sent me several years ago.
