This Days Since Love Letter Project is a perfect, heartfelt gift that costs no money, just your time.  It’s great for anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, or just because.  When I made this for Eric, I really just did it on a whim.  There was no reason or occasion.  I just wanted him to know that I cherished what we have.

I was inspired to make this after seeing several different projects that included an “I’ve loved you for (some number) of days.”  I thought that this was a perfect idea, and Eric would love it.  But, then I realized I had a problem.  How many days had I loved him?

I’m not talking about how to calculate the days there.  I mean – how do I pick a date.  Surely I didn’t love him from the first day we dated.  But, I definitely was in love with him before we got engaged.  So, instead, I decided that I would find out the days since some of the major milestones in our dating and married life.

Materials Used for the Days Since Love Letter Project

  • Paper of Your Choice (I used white cardstock)
  • Writing Utensils or a Computer (I used a plethora of Sharpie markers)
  • A “Days Since” Calculator

Now, I will admit that I thought about doing it with the computer.  That would have saved me when I seriously messed up on one letter about half way through the project and had to start completely over.  What a pain!

Still, I was happy in the end to have handwritten the love letter, even if I thought it would have looked nicer if I had done it on the computer.

Tips for Making Your Days Since Love Letter

First, you’ll need to figure out your dates.

What are the important dates in your relationship?  I went with the day we started dating, the day we got engaged, our wedding date, and the three dates we had our children.

These aren’t the only possible dates, of course.  You could also do a “days since” for things like when you first met, when you bought your first house together, an important move, or some other life changing event that included both of you.

Second, you’ll need to decide how elaborate and/or creative to make your notes.

I decided to write a couple of notes about each date that made it obvious what the date was about, but that didn’t just say “since we got married.”  I wanted them to feel like they were more emotional filled than just a list of events.

You might, however, not get as detailed with each event, but include more events.  You might simply say, “5423 days since we got married,” but then have a longer list than I had.  The possibilities for this project are pretty endless, really.  Just pick what you think will be most meaningful to your significant other.

As I said, this is really a project for any time.  I know that as of this writing, Valentine’s Day is coming up.  So, this would make a great, sentimental walk down memory lane.  But, I left mine sitting out for Eric one random morning a month or two ago, and for us, that was perfect.  I like those kinds of gestures to be more random.

Eric loved it, by the way.  In fact, he hung it up right near his side of the bed in our room.  I thought that was pretty sweet too!

What are some inexpensive romantic things you’ve done for your significant other?
