Surprise mom this Mother’s Day by making her a 3D Flower Mother’s Day card. It’s a handmade card created from scratch, which will surely make mom feel truly special.

The 3D flower itself is a very simple craft that only makes use of 2 items: tissue paper and a pipe cleaner. Kids from ages 8-12 will be thrilled to realize that they can easily create this on their own with minimal help from an adult.

However, this can also be turned into one of those crafts for preschool kids, because they could be capable of doing most of the steps, while an adult takes over for the more delicate parts of the craft.

What you need:

  • 1 Pink tissue paper sheet
  • 1 Green pipe cleaner
  • Glue
  • Card stock (US Letter or A4 size folded in half)

How to make the 3D Flower:

  1. Cut 6 sheets of tissue paper into approximately 10cm. squares. Stack them up on top of each other.
  2. Fold the sheets of paper like an accordion.
  3. Secure the folded tissue paper by twisting the end of a green pipe cleaner around the middle.
  4. Trim the edges of the folded tissue paper into a curve or a slightly pointy edge.
  5. This is the trickiest part. Slowly peel forward each layer of the tissue paper, being careful not to tear them. Fluff it a bit when you’re done peeling all the layers.
  6. Form the other end of the green pipe cleaner into a stem and leaf shape.

How to Make a 3D Flower Mother's Day Card

Glue the 3D flower onto a folded piece of card stock. Let it dry, and your 3D Flower Mother’s Day Card is done.

Kids can create more than one 3D flower to make it look like a small bouquet of flowers. Or they can even create a ‘vase’ by covering the stems with paper or fabric cut out in the shape of a vase.
