Preschooling at home can be intimidating for some parents.  While learning happens mainly through play and integrating learning concepts throughout the day, it is also nice to have a few “extras” for the toolbox when preschoolers are ready for more of a challenge. Here are a few reading resources that can give guidance when working with a preschooler at home. Some are free. Some are not. But all of them are excellent resources I highly recommend {this comes from a former classroom teacher with an M.Ed. in Reading}. And don’t miss the giveaway at the end!

These packs are based on units {such as popular toys, animals, or seasons} and feature literacy skills, but also integrate other Pre-K skills as well, such as scissor cutting or math.

I am excited to give away one bundle pack of Reading the Alphabet! I created this reading program for my son when he was three and he worked through it all last school year. This particular program is developmentally appropriate for children who have a good grasp on letters and their sounds, but aren’t ready for a faster-paced curriculum. Basically, it’s the next step after the ABC’s.
Reading the Alphabet Features:
- one new emergent reader is introduced a week, featuring one letter sound and one new sight word
- concept of print activities
- rhyming activities
- counting syllables
- initial sound sorts
- blending phonemes
- sight word games
- word family activities
- tracing pages
- coloring pages
- making and extending patterns
- numbers 1-20, and MORE!
- 31 weeks of activities and lesson plans total {plus extras}
While you can download all of the individual lessons for free on my blog {Be sure to carve out some time because there are a lot of downloads!}, I have been working hard this summer to package it up into one bundle pack! At $10, it’s a great deal. It’s stream-line to save you time and ink, AND I’ve added a few new activities to it that are not available in the free downloads!
Today I’m giving away one Reading the Alphabet Bundle Pack download to a reader here on The Homeschool Classroom! Enter via the Rafflecopter widget below for a chance to win. Please note that the only mandatory entry is a comment on this blog post. All other entries are optional. This giveaway ends Friday, August 9th.

This will be my first year…PreK and Kwith a 1yotoddling around! 🙂
This is my first ‘official’ homeschooling year. I have a four year old and a 19 month old. I believe that we homeschool from day one though, so I say I’ve homeschooled for 4 years! 😉
I have homeschooled for 7 yr now. We are headed into our 8th yr. I have a 14 y son and a 6.5 y son.
This will be my 12th year homeschooling!
This is my first official year. Although, I’ve been working with my 4 year old son for several months now.
My son just turned 4 and has been “reading ready” for quite a while. I’m feeling compelled to look into homeschooling this year with a Pre-K or K-4 focus, and not knowing exactly where to start. Hoping this giveaway might help me.
This will be our 1st year!!
My husband is going to homeschool our daughter. At 3.5 she is already showing skills at reading and the packets that just focus on the sounds of letters are not very challenging for her. This program sounds just like what she needs.
Last year was our first year homeschooling.
This will be my 21st year of homeschooling. Wow. We began in 1993 when my oldest was four. Our youngest is in 6th grade this year, so I have a few years left. I’m entering this for my daughter who has two daughters, 3 and 1. Thanks for the chance!
This will be our first official year (kindergarten). We have done some simple, unstructured, “unschooling” up to this point.
Looking forward to doing preschool at home with my son this year! Thanks for the giveaway!
My son is 2 and due with baby 2, so I’m beginning to accumulate activities for preschool! We’ve been playing/learning since the early stages though! 🙂
this is my first year of homeschooling. thanks for a chance to win.
We have homeschooled for 2 1/2 years.
So looking forward to using all of these amazing idea and printables.
Just getting started homeschooling.
Love this pack! Can’t wait to use it with preK!
We are getting ready to start our second year!
We have homeschooled (loosely) for 1 year. Our daughter is now 3 and we are starting preschool with her – her choice!
This will be our first year! I’m super nervous but super excited at the same time!!
First official year!
I have a preschooler, an early k and 2nd grader! I would get great use of this giveaway.
This is my first year. I have a kinder, 1st and 3rd grader. Nervous and excited!!!!
This is our first year homeschooling. 🙂
This is our first “semi-formal” year because my daughter is Pre-Kindergarten age (just turned 4) but we have been doing “Tot School” since she was two and her little sister will be starting “Tot school” for the first time:)
We are starting our 10th year and still loving it!
This will be year 2.
We are starting preschool homeschool this year with my 4 1/2 year old and I’ll have a 2 1/2 year old and a newborn along for the ride!
3.5 years! Every year is new and exciting.
This is my first year homeschooling! We are excited, hopeful and nervous at the same time.
Just starting this September with my 3.5 year old!
We are going into our fourth year of homeschooling, but are officially teaching multiple children for the first time this year.
We are doing preschool this year, but started working some last year as well.
For the past 2 years I have done preschool with my son… my daughter is now 2 and I will start “intentional” learning time with her to!
this is my first year…so I am excited and scared at the same time
Just trying to get started with younger kids this year! Homeschooled my 7th grader last year.
I’ve been homeschooling two years. 🙂
I’m just starting out in my homeschool journey and would love all the extra help i can get, I have 1 in grade 3, 1 in grade 1, a 4 year in preschool and a little toddler. I’m excited about all these awesome resources that everyone so graciously shares!! Thank you!
I just started homeschooling my 3.5 year old in June. He’d been in a traditional preschool/day care since he was 18mos old and I struggled to find a curriculum that would work with him as he already knows a lot of the BASICS for preschool. I plan to homeschool him (and his sister) until he’s in 6th grade.
I would use Reading the Alphabet with my 3 year old to “play” school. She’s done a letter of the week program and enjoys school, so we’ll keep moving on.
We have been homeschooling for 5 years, with preschool and kindergarten being “play” school.
I am just starting to look into homeschooling my children after becoming a SAHM. I have a soon to be three-year-old and an 18-month-old. This pack seems like it would be perfect to help get them prepared for learning how to read. Thanks for the opportunity!
Im looking into homeschooling for the first time.
This is our first year!
I am just beginning the homeschooling journey with my one year old…just reading fund books to her and starting to color and finger paint.
This is my first “official” homeschooling year with curriculum. I have taught my children throughout the years through many activities, crafts, and teachable moments
I have been homeschooling my older girls for 4 years now. This fall will be my 4 year olds first official school year and she is super excited, and so am I!! 🙂
This is my first year homeschooling! I have 2 girls, a 3-year-old and a 21-month-old and my 21-month-old wants to do everything big sister does. They are both very bright and love playing “school.” We read a lot, craft, have outside activities, build and “cook” in our kitchen. They also help with sweeping, cleaning up and laundry. It’s all fun to them so we do it together!!
Would love to have this – sounds like it would be great for both my 3 and 5 yr. old. Always looking for new ideas!
Great resources for reading. I’m so glad I got my kids reading early. And my kids are too. I don’t home school, but my kids were good readers when they started public school and it gave them a lot of confidence that flowed over to other subjects..
