It’s time to carve the turkey, and get the family together for Thanksgiving! Have you gotten your book basket together for this special season? Head to your library or bookstore to pick up these treasured tales.
1. Turk and Runt: A Thanksgiving Comedy
Want to make your little one laugh? This story of Runt, the little turkey who saves his big brother Turk from an early demise will have the whole family in stitches. (best for ages four through seven)
After Ann burns Thanksgiving dinner, she and Ed find the New World Cafe, where they learn that “Thanksgiving door is like happy heart, open big and wide.” The beautiful folk art illustrations are sure to delight your children. (recommended for K through third graders)
Working on teaching your son or daughter to appreciate all of the ‘little things’? This adorable book follows a little girl on her trip to the store, where she expresses her appreciation for the things that bring her joy. Â With its simple, repetitive text, it’s perfect for preschoolers and kindergarten students.
Need help reinforcing numbers? Try these turkeys on for size! The rhymes will help your kids with counting, while keeping them entertained and engaged, too.
5. I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie (Picture Puffins)
Keep the laughs coming with this new take on an old story. Everyone in your family will enjoy this tale of the Thanksgiving visitor with the enormous appetite!

Cranberry Thanksgiving (by the Devlins) has been a favorite for years. We would always make the secret cranberry bread recipe. Now the grandchildren are making the bread!

We liked ‘My Thanksgiving Prayer” by Crystal Bowman. Simple and sweet for the littles.
