Our family was recently able to try a fun product called The Trip Clip during our long drive home from Florida (after our December Florida adventure). It seemed like kismet when when Molly from The Trip Clip contacted me about advertising and this giveaway right as we were starting to gear up for our 13 hour drive. Crazy, huh?
This is where I have to give Molly a special shout out about this situation though. You see, part of the product is that you can print out activity pages, and we were printer-less at the condo in Florida. In order for my daughter (also named Molly!) to be able to try out The Trip Clip on the long drive, Trip Clip Molly helped us out by printing out some of the activities (that she let me pick) for us. Now, this was a special circumstance, so be prepared to have your own printer to use this product. But, I appreciated that Trip Clip Molly helped us in a pinch like that.
So, to the actual Trip Clip. My Molly was so excited when it arrived at our condo that she kept asking if she was definitely going to be able to use it when we left. In fact, she occasionally asked when we were leaving because she was excited to give it a try, especially after seeing the four color pen. (What kid doesn’t love a four color pen?)
Although we have three children, only two of them fall within the suggested age span for The Trip Clip, which is ages 3 – 10. Since one of those is a ten year old boy, he just honestly wasn’t very interested in the product, and just wanted to play on his 3DS instead. Knowing this would be the case, I picked out activities only with my seven year old Molly instead.
However, just because my ten year old wasn’t interested, I did like that there were printable activities that really would meet a wide variety of ages. It was nice to be able to pick activities with Molly very much in mind. In fact, her favorite was a word search where I got to put in my own words, so they included things like our names.
Molly spent quite a bit of time during the beginning of our trip completing word searches, color pages, and mazes. (You can see a range of what the printable pages available are here. However, I also found that once I actually got into the pages for choosing what to print, I was surprised at the number of options that are available for many of the activities.)
Although Molly did eventually switch from the Trip Clip to her new 3DS, she still kept going back to The Trip Clip at various times throughout the drive (until it got too dark to see). I asked her several times if she was enjoying it, and she gave it high praises. I was glad that she was able to have a fun activity that kept her busy in a different way than video games normally do during our trips.
The Trip Clip is not just for long travels, but also has printables that are perfect for something as simple as having your child responsible for their very own grocery list at the store. So, this product is great even if you are not usually a traveling family.
The Trip Clip costs $19.95 for the clip board, the four color pen, and ten activities. (Once you pick one of the activities, you can continue to print that same activity out in the future without paying for it again.) I must admit that for that cost, I would be more apt to maybe give The Trip Clip as a gift, rather than have bought it for my children myself. I was very glad to have it, however, and was more impressed than I initially anticipated that I would be. I also still think that it would be a fabulous gift idea!
I’m really excited that we will be able to give away a Trip Clip to one reader! Just enter by Saturday, February 11th at 11:59 pm EST.
You can enter the giveaway by leaving your answer to this question in a comment:
Tell us the age of the child you would be giving it to, as well as what activity you think they would like best.
As a bonus entry (leave it as a separate comment), you can give a suggestion of an activity that you would love to see available for the Trip Clip that is not currently available. (Suggestions that are already available activities will not be counted as an extra entry.)
The Trip Clip is going out to winner of the giveaway – Amanda! Congratulations, Amanda!
The Trip Clip is a current advertiser on The Homeschool Classroom. We were given a clipboard (and extra activities) at no cost to us. The giveaway Trip Clip set will be mailed out directly from The Trip Clip.

I would give this to my 8 yr old daughter she loves any kind of “paperwork”
Leslie C says
One activity that I would like to see would be a license plate game. You could mark off all of the states you see. Or for younger kids, a game where you mark off the colors of each car. You can make it simple for the younger kids–red (or shades thereof), greens, blues, etc. Helps reinforce learning their colors.
You could also offer very short stories for the kids to read and then draw a picture that relates back to the story. My daughter enjoys that and doesn’t even realize she’s learning and practicing her reading comprehension.
Caterina Mangano says
This would be for my children 3 and 4 1/2 years old. I think they would love Travel Bingo, my daughter would love the Grocery List, and my son would love the Word Search.

Amy says
Suggested activity – This could get really complicated, but something having to do with maps might be neat…a map of the trip with significant places and stops along the way for the child to color and follow along with.

Kimberly says
This would be so great for our 7-year-old! I think she would like the mazes and the “doodle” pictures best! Thanks!
Kimberly says
I think that a “word-jumble” type activity would be neat – maybe with pictures at the easier level, and themes (like the way the crossword puzzles are).
Also, some “Mad Libs”-type stories could be fun.
Or a (several?) page(s) of directions for “non-writing” things that can be done in the car, like songs to sing, games like the “ABC Hunt” game – where you have to find (out the window) something that starts with A, then B, then C, and so on…
Kathi says

Jamie says
The kids I would use it for are 8, 6, and 5. The oldest would have the most fun with the creative activities such as “write a story” or “draw”. The youngest would just enjoy the coloring pages. The middle girl would probably like the games once she learned how to play them.
I’m a teacher so I would like to see connections to reading, math, etc. What if you did a social studies page where the kids wrote down various things they learned about a community. You could do multiple levels of this – have a picture and have kids circle the businesses or community helper a community has. You could have older kids look for things like population, what denomination of Churches are in the community, if any famous people came from the community, who the mayor is, etc. I think it would be neat if they had something like that.
For math, maybe you could have story problems where they fill in the numbers such as “the number of stop lights + the number of stop signs” or “The number of restaurants minus the number of pizza ones”.
These kind of things would help kids learn more 🙂
Suzanne Brown says
My daughter, aged 7, would certainly enjoy the creative package and The Trip Clip!
sarah says
I have a 3 yr old and a 5 yr old. The 5 yr old is mad about word puzzles these days. The three yr old loves doodlingng and tracing….anything…numbers, shapes, you name it. I think it would be hard to pick just 7 things!!
Barb McLaud says
I have almost 4 y.o. and a almost 6 y.o.
I like the lists and the travel bingo!
Nice idea when kids need a time out from gaming ( or mom needs the time out from the gaming)
sarah says
They should have an I Spy ABC game. You’d have to find letters on billboards and signs and Mark them off on your sheet. Or a sight word game. Again, finding and marking off words.
Rachel says
My 8 yr old daughter would love the games section. The dot game and battleship would probably be a favorite.
Rachel says
I would love to see a license plate game sheet for long trips or a color by number picture.
Sarah Montee says
Our 3-yo daughter would love this! I think I’d want to start out with the grocery list one; take her to the store and have her with her own little cart (there’s a store nearby that’s pretty deserted in the evening)…she’d have a ball!
Sarah Montee says
For a new activity idea…I didn’t see a “things you see in church” one. Maybe offer ones for various denominations, but as a Catholic, there’d be a lot of things to find at Mass and it would be an awesome activity to keep them quiet and perhaps even LISTENING! Oh yeah, like for older kids to tell them to keep their ears peeled for certain words like “love” “faith” “hope” “messiah” etc…wouldn’t that be cool?!?
Cassie says
My daughter is almost 8 and would love any of the puzzles and any of the games. Probably most favorite right off the bat would be the mazes.
amanda villalobos says
I would either be letting my 4 or 6 year old daughter use it. I think they would have the most fun with the sHopping list and the tried and true tic tac toe!
