The Plan
Last year, we were excited to allow Molly to shop as well. Since she was only just barely three when we began this new tradition, we envisioned her trying to keep all of the toys for the boys for herself and throwing a fit. Because we didn’t allow her to shop, I just picked out an item from her for each of the boys from the leftover toys.
I had thought to just return the extras to Walmart for a refund. But, then I realized, “Hey — why not just keep the leftovers to fill their stockings?” (My kids didn’t remember that they are the same.)

Great idea! I just brought my kids to the dollar store and gave them all $7. One dollar for each of us (plus the dog). They had a blast and $35 later, there are 35 presents under the tree! They got some great stuff!

This is the coolest idea! I, too, remember our Santa's workshop at school where we got to shop for mom and siblings.
I am going to do this, for sure 🙂

LOVE this idea!! I was wondering how to remedy the problem of the Christmas shop my son got to go to in Kindergarten. Thank you!

Ang,
We always did the same thing for their "friend" shopping – and they call it "Mom shop." I would buy quantities of things from Oriental Trading or Target and then they would pick things and wrap for friends : )

Sorry if this posts twice…
We do the same thing (or at least did) and the kids call it Mom's Shop. I got big quantities of items from Oriental Trading (etc) and then they shopped for what they wanted to get their friends. They loved it.

Thanks for sharing. We have 3 children and I think that would be an amazing tradition to start next year! I can look all year for items on sale that would be great.

I might need to do this. My big kids are definitely old enough to get something out of it. 🙂

What a great idea! I'm sure the kids love it and it is probably more enjoyable for everyone all the way around.

This is so sweet! I remember very clearly doing something like this in a store that was set up maybe for kids of single parents? I was able to pick out a real surprise for my mom, and I still remember the pride it gave me.

That is really great idea!! LOVE the part about not being in a toy story – you're right … way too many choices!!

what a great idea I am sure it was fun for both you and the boys

So much fun! My kids have been content with the "you give him this, I'll give him that" two choice variety, but as they get older they may need more of a selection.
