Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly carnival (link up) that is posted each week as a chance for you to link up a Top Ten post of your own. (The link up usually opens very late on Monday night or early Tuesday morning.)
Information about Top Ten Tuesday
Where can I find the most recent Top Ten Tuesday?
You can find all of the Top Ten Tuesdays here (in reverse order, so it’s easy to find the latest one).
Is there a theme each week?
No, you are welcome to write any kind of Top Ten list you want. It doesn’t have to do anything with the list that I share.
(Please note: if your post is something inappropriate for a link up of this type, it could be removed. That is up to my discretion. I’ll be liberal with that, but if I feel that readers will be overly shocked/disturbed by the material that you’ve linked up to Top Ten Tuesday, I reserve the right to remove your link. Oh, ditto that to spammy things too.)
What should I post in the link up area?
The link up will ask for your name, which I suggest you put in the title of your post (as a way to get people interested enough to click through).
You will be asked for the URL, please use the permalink to your specific post, not just your blog’s general URL.
You will also be asked for an email address, but that is not visible to other visitors.
Do I need to use the button for Top Ten Tuesday in my post?
You don’t have to, but you certainly can. There is coding for a large button size and a small button size over in the sidebar. Feel free to grab it and use it. (Or, you can just save the button and upload it to your blog yourself, if you prefer.)
Even if you don’t want to use the button, it is proper link up etiquette to link to the hosting blog. So, be sure to mention somewhere in the post that you are linking up to Top Ten Tuesday with a link to Many Little Blessings. That way, your readers will know where to join in the fun as well.
Do you have any good tips about participating in Top Ten Tuesday?
I do, actually. Here are 10 Tips for Writing and Promoting a Top Ten Tuesday Post. (These tips are actually applicable to most other link up as well.)
Is there a Twitter hashtag?
Why, yes there is. Thanks for asking. #toptentues
Does my post need to specifically say “Top 10 (Rest of the Title)”?
No, but you are welcome to title it like that. For example, if your post is about why you love using a wireless mouse, you could call it “Top 10 Reasons I Love My Wireless Mouse.” You might also say, “10 Reasons to Use a Wireless Mouse.” Or, you could leave off any mention that there will be ten items and title it, “I Use a Wireless Mouse and So Should You.”
Titling aside, your post should be recognizable as talking about ten things. They don’t have to be numbered, but people shouldn’t land on your page and think, “This isn’t a Top Ten Tuesday post at all.” If it is definitely not a top ten list in any way, shape, or form, I will delete your link from the list.
When did Top Ten Tuesday start?
Top Ten Tuesday didn’t begin its life on Many Little Blessings. Top Ten Tuesday began on February 24, 2009 at Oh Amanda. Amanda faithfully kept Top Ten Tuesday going on her blog, each week, for three years until the last Top Ten Tuesday at Oh Amanda on February 28, 2012.
As someone who participated in the link up each week, Amanda and I got to know one another. When she decided to take a month off in 2011, she asked me to write one of the guest posts for Top Ten Tuesday. I had no idea at the time that I would eventually be hosting it at my own blog!
In early 2012, Amanda approached me about taking over Top Ten Tuesday here at Many Little Blessings. Many Little Blessings officially became the host of Top Ten Tuesday on March 1, 2012.
