Homeschooling many children, in many different age ranges, can pose a challenge most days. Life is always threatening to interrupt my best laid plans. Â I have good intentions for completing many activities, but often in the busyness of the day, I forget!
We recently relocated from Michigan to Florida, and we are currently living in a rental home. Â Our rental is temporary while we house hunt for a home to purchase. Â I have done little to no decorating. I don’t want to “decorate” a temporary home, and I don’t want to have more work to do when it comes time to move again! Â My decorating tastes run fairly simple anyway, and we have always had maps and such adorning our walls.
It hit me one day when I was getting a bit tired of our bare walls, why not put some of the things I was forgetting front and center in our living space?
We start out our morning at the kitchen table with CNN Student News for the older kids and then a decade of the rosary for all of us. Â It was a logical space to put up all those little things we are working on but often forget to review. Â It didn’t take too much searching around on Google and Pinterest to find what I wanted to hang on our wall.
Right now, our wall has helper words for our readers in progress, days of the week, months of the year, the 10 Commandments, Fruits of the Spirit, The Star-Spangled Banner, parts of speech, a map of South America, and a multiplication chart for the older children.
Our learning wall is not fancy, but it works! Sometimes throughout the day I will find an older child helping a younger child. Â It’s also a great opportunity for the kids to share some of their learning with Dad at dinner.

Really, your learning wall is only limited by your imagination. Â This can be a great area for some delight directed learning as well.
