Spring is here and gardening is a great way to get the kids outside, active, and learning! Even if you don’t have a garden, there are ways you can create a garden-like atmosphere for enjoyment.  Here are a few fun ways to get started:

Parent Primer – Kids Gardening

This primer doesn’t just offer kids gardening basics, but provides 10 chapters of learning experiences inside and outside of your garden.  It discusses gardening at different ages, ways you can interest your child in gardening, garden design, possible garden themes, fun types of plants, gardening safety, and much more.

Our Keyhole Garden Begins – se7en

A slightly different garden from what I have ever seen before, but the concept is fabulous!  Use your compost to “feed” your garden.

Hanging Garden Seed Starter – Disney FamilyFun

If you would like to start some seeds in an unconventional way, or you don’t have garden space and would just like to try some experimentation with your children, this hanging garden may do the trick.

A Rock Play Garden – Be a Fun Mum

Not into gardening?  Have some rocks?  This Australian mum used her noggin to create a garden-like place for her young son to play and learn.  Not only is it fun for him, but she mentioned it is located next to the garden, so she is able to tend her part while her son enjoys his.

Little Learning Garden – Learning Pavilion

A bit of a silly post of mine, but it suggests a few things that can be done in or around your garden or yard, besides actual growing.

Grow Your Own Name – Disney FamilyFun

Find a garden or farm store that sells grass seed in bulk (as opposed to a whole 30 or 50 lb. bag), and grow your child’s name in grass.  What fun!

You can find Sheri blogging at Learning Pavilion, a place where nature, education, and crafts meet.
