I’m a huge fan of Amazon.com. A couple of years ago, when I tried an Amazon Prime membership, however, I was blown away. It made the Amazon experience unbelievable. If you are not familiar with Amazon Prime, it began as a program that costs $79/year and entitles you to free 2-day shipping (or pay a little more for next day shipping) with no minimum purchase for the free 2-day shipping.
I love that instead of waiting until I want to buy $25 worth of things and then waiting for the Super Saver Shipping, I can decide I want a $4 book, order it, and then get it in two days (although I often get it the next day, even with two day shipping).
There has been a lot of buzz online lately about Amazon Mom, which is a program that allows Moms and other caregivers to get a free Amazon Prime membership. This also includes a deal for 30% off diapers and wipes when you use their subscribe and save option. In the past, the Amazon Mom option listed that it was good for three months. When I checked on the page while writing this, it says “up to a year.” So, I’m not sure about the current details on it, but it is definitely worth looking into!
Another option, which is one that we are currently taking advantage of, is the Amazon Student deal. Amazon Student gives a free Amazon Prime membership to current college students. You just have to have a valid .edu email address and you pick your college from a drop down list by state. I found out about Amazon Student very recently, and we already had a regular Prime membership. However, after we signed up for Amazon Student (thanks to Eric being a student at a small private college), Amazon.com refunded part of what we had paid for our original Amazon Prime membership (since we had used seven months of it). Amazon also then set us up with a full year of Amazon Prime through the Amazon Student program (from the date that Eric verified his email account with the program).
If you can’t take advantage of these programs and you haven’t had an Amazon Prime membership in the last 13 months, you can sign up for a free trial of the regular Amazon Prime (which seems to vary in length based on what I read on the Amazon boards – anywhere from 1 – 3 months). This would be especially perfect just in time for the holidays!

The deal with Amazon mom is that you get the first 3 months free and then you have to buy $25 or more from the baby store to get additional months up to one year.

@Cara,
Thanks for sharing, Cara! I couldn’t seem to find the information without trying to really get into the sign up process. That seems like a great deal for Moms with littles.

I just wanted to mention that if one person buys a membership, they can add others on to it. My mom bought it, and then added my husband and I so all of us get free 2 day shipping.
So, if a few people wanted the membership, I don’t know, but it might be possible to share it and split the cost?

Good info! We’ve had it for 3 years now and it is worth it (though since we aren’t students we will keep paying : ) )

Great tips! Unfortunately we don’t qualify for any of the free things, but I might try out the trial version!
