Sometimes it can seem like St. Patrick’s Day is all about leprechauns and four leaf clovers. I’ll admit it – we even had our fair of Saint Patrick’s Day shenanigans at our house when the kids were little. St. Patrick’s Day is a wonderful time, however, to celebrate the real Saint Patrick with some crafts, activities, food, and fun.

St. Patrick’s Day Crafts and Activities
I love hands-on learning through crafts, activities, and projects. Saint Patrick’s Day is a great opportunity for all of those! All of these crafts feature a shamrock, which is a three-leaf clover. The three-leaf clover is what Saint Patrick used to teach about the Trinity.
1. Not only can you and the kids go look for clovers, but then you can incorporate them into this cool Shamrock Sun Catcher.
2. You can work on fine motor skills with this Shamrock Wreath Craft. It even comes with a free printable template for your shamrock.
3. I love that this Yarn Wrapped Shamrock Project would be fun for both little kids and bigger kids. Plus, there’s a free template, which is always nice.
4. Kids will love watching how the color moves through these Coffee Filter Shamrocks.
5. If you have older children, a more advanced craft could be this Paper Quilled Shamrock Cards. It’s a beginning quilling craft, so it’s a great place to start if your kids have an interest in quilling.
St. Patrick’s Day Food for Kids
Special foods are a staple for holidays, and St. Patrick’s Day is no exception. It’s a fun time to enjoy green, festive foods as well as traditional Irish recipes.
1. Have you ever had a fluffernutter? It’s a sandwich made with peanut butter and marshmallow cream. Sure, it’s not something that you should eat every day, but this Saint Patrick’s Day Fluffernutter Sandwich is perfect for a little celebration.
2. You can go a traditional route and enjoy this delicious Irish Soda Bread. Kids can even help with preparing it.
3. These Homemade Shamrock Pretzel Pops are easy enough for kids to make them with a little help or all on their own. These will look festive and are portable enough to enjoy while crafting or reading a book.
4. While I have never personally had a Shamrock Shake, I know that Saint Patrick’s Day is not complete for some people without one. Here is a healthier version of a Shamrock Shake that kids can help make.
I also have several different types of green smoothies on the site that you and your kids may love. With flavors like Blueberry Peach Green Smoothie, they’re perfect for some healthy green on Saint Patrick’s Day!
5. These Mini Irish Flag Skewers are so cute! Kids will not only love the items included on the skewer, but they’ll love the look of them too. These are another great kids in the kitchen type of project.
6. As long as we have some healthier options, I’ll have to share this Pistachio Dessert. It won’t be a healthy dessert, but it looks delicious and is festively green.

7. This Irish Lamb Stew looks delicious and hearty. Stews and soups can be hit and miss with kids, but if your kids love stew, this looks like a winner.

St. Patrick’s Day Books for Kids
Some of my favorite memories of when my kids were younger took place all huddled together on the couch doing read alouds. Even as teenagers, we still do that from time to time and everyone enjoys it.
There are tons of great books for Saint Patrick’s Day! Even if you want to focus on Saint Patrick’s Day as a religious holiday, there are still plenty of fabulous book options.

I’m a pretty big fan of printables, of course. I love them as a supplement to other types of learning, as well as a way to just mix things up from time to time.

Go to Church on Saint Patrick’s Day
Since Saint Patrick’s Day is a religious feast day, going to church can be a wonderful addition to your day! If your church doesn’t have a service or Mass, you can still go to church for prayer or adoration.
If those aren’t viable options for you and your family, you can share and discuss the famous prayer Saint Patrick’s Breastplate.
