The Year of the Summer Staycation

As I mentioned yesterday (in my post about Madison, Wisconsin), many people are finding themselves taking a Staycation this year instead of a big summer vacation.  With raising prices and a weak economy, it just makes sense to a lot of families to stay in town or take day trips (or single overnights) instead.

Check out the over 80 links with Staycation posts featuring free or inexpensive attractions for all over the United States!

Fantastic! We’re researching tents and plan to do some cheap-o camping mini-vacations in the near future.

Even though we’re not on the list, there are lots of free things to do down here! In Lafayette during the fall and spring, we have weekly free music concerts – Downtown Alive on Friday evenings, Bach Lunch at noon on Fridays, Rhythms on the River on Thursday nights, and The Mecredi Show on Wednesday evenings in the nearby town of Carencro. Then they host a free movie viewing in a park downtown (monthly?) where you bring blankets or camp chairs and eat popcorn and candy while you watch a movie with your friends under the stars. Plus we have the largest FREE French-speaking festival in the world – Festival International, four days near the end of April.

Yeah, we’re pretty much never moving away from here if we can help it. :)
