Great Homeschooling Links – June 11, 2010 – Summer Fun

This week, my links will be all about summer fun. Free and inexpensive activities to beat the heat, as I don’t know about you but as a SAHM and a homeschooler, my budget is pretty limited and I’m always looking for fun activities for my kids.


Besides what I have listed, be sure to check your local parks, national parks, libraries and Vacation Bible Schools. Many offer free / inexpensive family activities all year round but especially in the summer.

Kids Bowl Free
Who can beat, free bowling (well almost free you have to pay for the shoes), it’s fun, active and it’s in the AC

Home Depot Kids Workshops
One Saturday a month, Home Depot hosts free kids workshops where kids get test their building skills.

Lowes Build and Grow Clinics
Lowes also offers free building clinics for kids monthly at their stores.

Pick Your Own
Picking your own fruits and vegetables is fun, educational , inexpensive and healthy!

The craft store hosts craft activities for kids in their stores, some are free and other are for a reasonable fee.

Lakeshore Learning
Lakeshore Learning offers free crafts in their store for kids 3 and up every Saturday.

Pottery Barn Kids
PBK is hosting a story time for kids of all ages in their stores every Tuesday morning

Free / Inexpensive Summer Movies

AMC Movie Camp
Every Tuesday morning AMC theaters do a summer movie camp. Movies are only $1

Regal’s Free Family Film Festival
Regal Theaters are doing a free family film festival this summer.

Summer Reading Programs

Make sure you check your local library for their summer reading program. Ours has a great program.

Barnes and Noble
Get a free book when you read 8 books this summer

Read 10 books, get a book free

No Time For Flashcards
No Time For Flashcards is hosting a Summer Reading Challenge with prizes you can win

Half Price Books
Kids 14 and under read for 15 minutes a day every week and receive a $3 gift card to Half Off books

National Amusments
Read some books, see a movie – it’s a win-win

Chuck E Cheese
Read for two weeks, and get 10 free tokens. Not much but enough to have a little fun.
