National Puzzle Day is January 29, so I thought I would post some links for you fellow puzzle lovers to add to your lessons that will hopefully ease the winter doldrums.  Any time is a good time to do a puzzle, but winter has always been the traditional time for my family.  Many Saturday nights would find us sitting down together with a jigsaw puzzle and me begging to stay up a little longer.  I even remember hiding a piece or two just so I could be the one to finish it!

Hopefully you and your family will find a puzzle you can enjoy together too.  And the great thing about puzzles is that there are many types of them, so if you don’t prefer one kind, try another.  Here are just a few you can try online:

Funtime Games –
Sudoku, Jigsaw, and Slider puzzles are just a few types of puzzles available at

Puzzles –  BrainBashers
Please your brain with some of these word-type puzzles and mazes.

Picture Puzzlers –  Just Riddles and More

If you haven’t found an appealing puzzle yet, you are sure to find one here and you can even subscribe to the Puzzle of the Day.

Photograph Puzzle Maker –
Upload your own picture and make a puzzle out of it here.

Tangrams –
Tangrams are another type of puzzle using 7 geometric shapes.  Find out the history, make your own, or solve tangram puzzles at

Tangrams –
Here are more Tangrams to solve online at PBS Kids. (To find even more Tangram patterns, do a Google Image search and you will find many.)
