My family loves Italian-inspired food, so they were thrilled when I told them that I was off to our local Kroger store during their Taste of Italy program to pick up everything we needed for a delicious dinner. I think you and your family will love this Busy Night Tortellini Bake as well!

I loved that my Kroger store made it easy to find their Tasty of Italy products with fun displays and lots of festive Taste of Italy balloons all around.
As part of shopping for the ingredients that I needed for the Tortellini Bake recipe, I wanted to find a delicious, Tuscan-inspired spaghetti sauce that featured a fresh flavor to really elevate this quick dish. I love the garden fresh taste of basil, so I was thrilled to pick up jars of Bertolli Tomato & Basil Sauce.
While I was at Kroger, other than the Bertolli Tomato & Basil Sauce, I also picked up refrigerated tortellini, a couple of types of cheeses, and a baguette. Our schedule has been a busy mess lately, and these few ingredients would be perfect to put together for a wonderful Italian-inspired dish that is quick to prepare, but doesn’t taste like something that you’ve just thrown together. Bonus!
Busy Night Tortellini Bake Recipe
The recipe amounts we used for this were for our family of five to have enough to eat, plus leftovers. We made ours in a 13×9 pan.
If you want to make less, I would do it in an 8×8 pan. You can then use half the amount of tortellini and then less of the cheeses and sauce, but I would base those amounts on how saucy and cheesy your family enjoys Italian-inspired dishes. We typically go a little conservatively on cheese, so you may want to keep the same cheese amounts even when using a smaller amount of tortellini.
Ingredients for Tortellini Bake
- 1.5 – 2 jars of spaghetti sauce (as I said, we loved the Tuscan-inspired Bertolli Tomato & Basil)
- 2 large packages of refrigerated tortellini (if making a smaller amount, you can use 2 small packages or just one family-sized package)
- 2/3 cup of water (though we sometimes skip it, honestly, and just opt for more sauce)
- 1 fresh French baguette, cut into 1/2″ slices
- 1 stick of butter, melted
- 1 cup of mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup of shredded Parmesan cheese
Directions for Tortellini Bake
1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
2. In a large sauce pan, combine your refrigerated tortellini, spaghetti sauce, and water. Bring the mixture to a low boil.
3. Melt butter, and then toss the baguette slices in the melted butter.
4. Add half of your tortellini/sauce mixture in a 13×9 pan (or an 8×8 pan, if you are making a smaller amount). Top with your mozzarella cheese. Then, add the rest of your mixture and top that with your Parmesan cheese.
5. Gently, but securely, go around the edge of the pan putting in your bread slices (like pictured).
6. Bake for around 15 minutes, or until the tortellini is warm, the cheese is melted, and the bread is crisp and becomes slightly golden.
7. Enjoy!
Feeling hungry for this, or another Italian-inspired dish? Kroger’s Taste of Italy event lasts through October 11th, so I would encourage you to head to Kroger for delicious Italian-inspired options, like the Bertolli Tomato & Basil Sauce, which made our Tortellini Bake even more tasty!
